La Havana

Ruben Paz is above all a musician, he started his musical career in Havana (Cuba), his hometown, where he graduated from the Higher Conservatory Amadeo Roldán of Havana, in saxophone specialty, but also in complementary disciplines such as piano , orchestration, harmony and counterpoint, and won several awards for popular and classical interpretation.

Early on, Ruben Paz joined well-known groups in Cuba, under the direction of maestros such as Kiki Corona, Joaquin Betancourt and José-Luis Cortés.


From 1998, following an European tour with the Malanga group, he moved to France and chose Marseille as his adoption port.

He offers his Afro-Cuban heritage with jazz and world-music influences to the French scene, in Marseille, but also abroad, accompanied by his saxophone and more and more also with his transverse flute for which he falls in artistic love and will never leave it. He collaborates with artists such as Sergeant Garcia, Maurice El Medioni, Rhany, Yomira John, Antonio el Titi but also with many artists from the Latin scene of the south of France as Diabloson, Pablo and Charanga, Conjunto Masalia, RDM.

He developed his talents as composer and arranger, with various artists, but especially creating his first group of Timba (Cuban popular music), in 2001, under the name “La Bomba Cubana”, with the special participation of Angel Yos and other talented Latino musicians from Marseille. In parallel, he created the group “Néolatino” to get a more latin-jazz project and released a single “Apasionado”, a song selected for an appearance in French TV movie “Camping Paradise” and several compilations.


In 2011, he launched his band “Cheverefusion” (cool fusion), with new compositions grouped in his first album “Amor Virtual”. His musical maturity is the result of years of work at the founding school of Afro-Latin roots in Cuba, but also of all the influences he has absorbed during his artistic career. With this work, he signs his desire to propose a music “fusion” with Caribbean colors, Afro-Cuban rhythms (Salsa, Rumba, Conga, Timba and Chachacha), but also with nuances of Funk and Jazz.


Subsequently, concert tours will be held in France and abroad (Morocco, Tunisia, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, Cuba …). With Cheverefusion he participates in many festivals such as the Tanjazz (Morocco), the festival of Alpilles, the salsa festival of Saint-Tropez, Latinossegor festival, International Festival of Sousse (Tunisia), Jazz Festival in Calvi. He will give several performances at the Dock des Suds (Marseille), notably participating in the Fiesta des Suds, the festival “Salsa Congrès” and Babel Med Music.

There are also appearances and interviews in French, Cuban and international radio and televisions (LCM TV, Maritima TV, France 3 Provence Alpes, Web TV Nice, Web TV Barcelona, ​​CUBANA TV, Radio France Bleu Provence, Radio Frog, Radio Zinzine , Jazz Radio, Radio Ciudad de La Habana).

In 2016, Ruben Paz goes off the beaten path again, with a collaboration and co-production of Yoandy San Martin, proposing the title “Su Amor”, a song that fits rather in the style of Latin pop, to a wider audience.

The same year he shows a unifying talent by presenting an event at the Espace Julien (Marseille), on June 3, 2016, “La Fiesta Cubanisima”. With the precious help of Arts et Musiques, who has been supporting his career development since the same year, he offered to his fans a complete event dedicated to Cuba and its wide culture.

Ruben Paz y su Cheverefusion

“Salsa para Todos” (Salsa for All) is the title of the new album in progress, it will be released in spring 2018. Following the solicitation from his “Salsero” audience, Ruben Paz will propose « dancing songs », with traditional sounds to which he will not fail to add the ingredients of artistic interbreeding which are so dear to him.
